Every cryptic clue is actually a mini puzzle made up of two halves:

• The Definition - a straight-up hint to the answer
• The Wordplay - a sneaky instruction (or instructions) to provide you with a different way to assemble the answer

Use the Hints

Feeling stuck? Tap on a hint. You’ll get a summary of the clue, with:

• Fodder: the letters you’ll manipulate
• Indicators: the words that tell you how to manipulate them (anagram, hidden word, reversal….)
• Surface: the disguise of the clue — a sentence that looks normal but is all wordplay underneath
