What is Dordle?

Dordle is a free online word puzzle game that is inspired by the original Wordle, with a bit of a twist; instead of only guessing one word at once, players have to guess two hidden five-letter words simultaneously in a split-screen version of the original Wordle.

Every time you guess, you enter information to both puzzles simultaneously, and you only have seven guesses to get both words correctly! This element of complexity is perfect for those looking to upskill their word-solving abilities.

How to Play Dordle

Playing Dordle is simple, but significantly more strategic than it might appear. Here is how it works:

Enter Your First Word

Start by typing any valid five-letter word. This guess will show up on both grids, left and right (so you get two guesses at once).

Observe the Color Feedback

Each grid will give you clues for its hidden word:

  • Green: Letter is correct and in the right spot.
  • Yellow: Letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The Letter is not in the word.

Remember that your guess may be closer to one word than the other, which is where the strategy comes into play. You need to be thinking about two puzzles at once!

Guess Wisely

You have only 7 guesses, so everything you type must help you solve both puzzles. Using balance, ultimately, you want to choose words that reveal letters for both boards.

Two Ways to Play: Daily Dordle & Free Dordle

You can play in two fun ways.

Daily Dordle

  • You play the same puzzle as everyone else each day.
  • Resets at midnight in your time zone.
  • Ideal for sharing your results or competing against friends.

Free Dordle

  • Play an unlimited number of random puzzles.
  • Practice and experiment with your strategy.
  • Great for casual gaming whenever you'd like.

Both modes play the same way, outside of whether you are playing a daily global puzzle or a random puzzle.

Dordle Beginning Tips

  • Choose a balanced first word (i.e., SLATE, CRANE) that has common vowels and consonants.
  • Pay attention to feedback from each grid—don’t pay too much attention to just one word.
  • Use your early guesses to eliminate letters or confirm letters for both sides.
  • When you have one word nearly solved, and the other is a mystery, try guesses that use the "split strategy".
