What is The Connections Game?

The Connections Game is a daily brain teaser where players must cluster a list of words into four groups based on their connections. While it is still technically a word game, it uses the words to create connections more than just simply solve a word puzzle. Connections is designed to get you thinking divergently, looking for the unnoticeable relationships, to discover how all the words connect to form a group. Connections is cleverly designed, an exciting, challenging game for any age, and is very easy to play.

The popular Wordle-based version of the Connections Game ups the ante by requiring that you make these four word clusters with only four errors allowed (or misses), thus your ability to guess is being tested. The challenge isn't just finding the connection, but to nail the four connections with limited attempts, testing your vocabulary and reasoning skills.

How To Play The Connections Game: Step by Step Follow The Directions

Take Your Time To Look At The Words

To begin the Connections Game, you can look at the words that are presented to you on your screen. Take your time and think about these words, as any or potentially all of these words could be calling your name by helping you connect a group of words. After reading over the list, take a moment and think of the meanings of each word, the synonyms of each word, or other potential associations associated with the words. Some of the words on the board might be more obvious than others, while some words might take a little extra imagination and lateral thinking.

Utilize Resources When Required

If there are words or phrases you do not know, take the initiative to look them up! Utilizing a search engine or dictionary will help clarify the words' meanings and usually help uncover deeper meanings. The better you understand each word, the easier it will be to see its connections.

Recognize the underlying theme

The aim is to locate four groups of words that fit together. Ask yourself:

  • Do these belong to the same category-- such as colours, animals, or sports?
  • Are they connected by a shared quality-- such as synonyms, antonyms, or cultural references?
  • Could they be connected by something less obvious-- such as historical events, brands, or idioms?

Assemble Your Word Groups

If you come up with a hypothesis, begin to group the words. The difficulty of the game is making it with just a few mistakes--three mistakes are allowed. Utilize logic and process of elimination to limit your groups and, in turn, maximize how right you are.

Submit and Reflect

After submitting your grouped words, view your results. Regardless of whether you receive success or miss some connections, each attempt increases your mental agility and vocabulary.
